A negative impact on the river.

We are writing this letter to voice our opposition to the proposed Lobo Sand and Gravel pit at Little Lakes and Londesboro Roads. This is a very scenic area close to the Maitland River where many people go to hike and canoe. The gravel pit will destroy the agricultural land and have a negative impact on the river and the surrounding woodlands. The frequency of dump trucks will create dust and noise that will be detrimental to those living nearby or visiting the area. As the plan is to dig below the water table, the pit would adversely affect the neighbouring wetlands which are home to fish, migratory birds and other wildlife, as well as community wells. The pit would create sediment which would infiltrate the wetlands, and toxic emissions from the machinery could contaminate the groundwater and in turn neighbouring wells. There are already many gravel pits in the area, but this specific piece of land is exceptional, consisting of substantial wetlands and close to the historic Balls Bridge, and therefore should be protected from the irreversible damage that a gravel pit would cause. Thank you for your consideration of our concerns. Sincerely, Jenny Jeffrey Mike Jeffrey Nathan Jeffrey Curtis Jeffrey Pat Bourdon Denis Bourdon
